A mortal marriage: Louis and Hélène Althusser

Louis Althusser and his wife Hélène, marxist intellectuals, had a difficult relationship that lasted until he killed her. What do the charts say about the relationship of this famous couple?

In short: they clicked, they didn't see each other clearly and it was a painful relationship with strong ties of a ideological couple with more than one shared experience or characteristic. It was a marriage strongly defined by the eventually destructive ailment of the husband.

MATCH: OK
How was the match? Surprisingly good. Look at the chart of Hélène with the transits of the day of birth of her husband and later killer:

- Sun conjunct Sun is for joined life style, joined ways of living and living together as one, tightly. They were a bit of the same kind.
In this case that was very difficult, because Althusser had problems accepting himself. So how could he accept his alter ego or the one in the mirror?

- Venus conjunct Venus should mirror joined sympathies and preferences, loving each other. The story says, however, that they argued about almost everything, like buying clothes. Maybe that WAS because they used to feel at ease with each other.

- Their Moon signs didn't match (Pisces and Aquarius), so they had different needs, habits and backgrounds. It wasn't easy to share the same house.

- It was easier to share the same bed, perhaps. Mars is sextile Mars and that is a match.

They 'clicked', mostly.

STRANGE SYNASTRY
Her midpoint Sun/Moon is square his Chiron. There is hurt and pain related to the marriage. He hurt her all the time and maybe  she hurt him, too. It seems to have been part of the deal. On http://www.edwardfox.f2s.com/althusser1.html they quote a friend saying that they were both the knife and the wound to each other.

His Neptune is quindecile her Ascendant and that is a rare and nasty coincidence that creates a confusing situation. His Sun is quintile Neptune, and that is creating confusion anyway.

Her Neptune and Uranus are square his Sun and in her natal chart the Sun is square Uranus and Neptune, too. Perhaps she wanted to be blind for what she saw (for example, when he flirted with others). Maybe they never really saw each other as they really were.

One of the most important aspects of the relationship is his Saturn conjunct her Ascendant. There also was a sort of tendency to control or limit Helene (Saturn-Ascendant) and she respected him. There was an age difference (she was older). In the end, he ended her life. Saturn-Ascendant relationships tend to last long, sometimes because the Saturn person doesn't let the Ascendant person go…

All in all they clicked (but they had different habits). She idolized him and he mesmerized her. And she was motivated and attracted by his pain and by him hurting her? (Chiron*) Also, it  was a relationship based on guilt or responsibility, with an age difference.

NO DIVORCE
Why didn't they file for divorce? I think that it is because of the fact that they both had not enough aspects related to divorce. His Moon opposition Saturn is only one of the 4 indications of divorce in a male's chart. Her Sun conjunct Mars is wide, but she has Sun square Uranus, tightly. They were more than adult when they met, so apparently they had a hard time finding a partner. When he started to have fans and followers, there was enough choice. Or am I cynical?

SHARED ASPECTS
When people share aspects, they share the same experiences or characteristics. For example, when you had a hard time in love (Venus-Saturn) and your partner, too, you are likely to stick together in order to avoid more pain.
  • THE HIDDEN SHARED VENUS-SATURN
You know that Venus - Saturn makes you stick like glue to marriage, because of obligations, the mortgage, parenthood or other feelings of responsibility or guilt.
Helen has a minor aspect between Venus and Saturn: 157.5 degrees (sesquisquare + half semi square).
Louis has the semi square.

They shared Venus-Saturn. Quoting myself (http://www.astromarkt.net/sharing-aspects.html ):
Venus-Saturn: staying together as long as possible because love is a serious thing. And if you break up (possible with conflicts and supported by more indications) the pain is long felt.
He was never true to her. He seduced women in front of her, just to hurt or punish her. But she didn't leave him. I think that Hélène's Moon inconjunct Venus shows an almost desperate need to be loved that eventually cost her her life (as Venus is ruler 8th house of life and death.
  • SHARING SUN-URANUS
She had Sun square Uranus
He had Sun trine Uranus
It means that their relationship had an unusual start and that there was excitement and tension between them. It seems that she  was his first sex partner.
  • SHARING SUN-NEPTUNE
She has Sun square Neptune
He had Sun quintile Neptune

They were both idealist and possibly had a romantic idea about the world. They also were unclear abou tthemselves. Quoting myself again:
" Sun and Neptune shared in aspect gives you shared ideals, dreams and faith or even a shared idol! But with hard aspects you might share the same disillusions as well or this relationship is disillusive. Cooperating could work out best in an asylum or in a non-profit organization where they can help others, and each other."

This seems to be related to his mental situation and to the marxism.
  • SHARING VENUS-MARS
Venus conjunct Mars and Venus sextile Mars: they were people with a passion.

**It is an interesting case of a matching couple with difficulties. In the eyes of their friends, they were not 'compatible' at all, however. She was not elegant, she was old fashioned and she was humiliated by him in public. Saturn made it very hard on her and still she didn't leave.
**

KILLING
A. The killer
When he killed her, there were difficult and easy transits and progressions at the same time. What would you think of these transits and progressions?
1. Transit Mars trine Saturn
On that specific day, it was time for an easy death end.
2. Transit Saturn square Pluto
Having a hard time facing consequences, fear of paying the price. Saturn rising before the Sun and Pluto conjunct Midheaven point at the importance of Saturn and Pluto.
3. Transit Pluto conjunct Sun
Stress!!!! As her Sun is conjunct his, it was shortly after her transit Pluto-Sun experience. They were both having difficult times.
4. Transit Jupiter conjunct Ascendant
This day was the start of 'getting better' (often a therapy or doctor is 'on the horizon' with Jupiter)
5. Transit Jupiter inconjunct Progressed IC
Improvement with a loss involved
6. Transit Saturn opposition Nessus in 7
A hard confrontation after death
7. Transit Nessus inconjunct progressed Sun
Facing anger from the past in an unbalanced way with a loss involved.
8. Progressed Sun sextile Progressed Uranus
Liberation, independence and change coming up.

B. The victim
Her transits and progressions on the final day:
1. Transit Uranus conjunct MC
A shock, something suddenly changes the status quo
2. Transit Neptune sextile Sun
Confused 'letting go'
3. Transit Chiron inconjunct Progressed Moon
A moment of hurt
4. Transit Chiron semi square Sun/Moon
Vulnerable frustrating moment in marriage (remember that his Chiron is square her Sun/Moon. This transit is resonating that).
5. Transit Mars inconjunct IC
Getting hurt with a loss involved
6. In the progressed chart Saturn was conjunct Midheaven
The end of a period or condition (she died)

NATAL CHART HELENE
- Her Mars rises before her Sun. They describe her as 'militant' and with a cracked voice (Sun square Uranus).

- In her natal chart the Descendant was conjunct Mars/Saturn. It refers to a death ends on the horizon. In the Second World War she was a member of the resistance.

- She also had Jupiter and Neptune in hard aspect with the angles, for hope, beliefs and following an ideology.

- Her Saturn was 'calling'!

The importance of Mars and Saturn and the midpoint Mars/Saturn-horizon shows that issues of limited energy, death ends and discipline were important in her life. It seems that she spoke of suicide more than once.

http://www.astro.com/astro-databank/Althusser,_Hélène

NATAL CHART LOUIS
He was mentally ill and yet worshipped by his audience (Moon quatronovile Neptune and sesquisquare Jupiter).

He said that he did it without knowing it. I think that Sun quintile Neptune is the aspect of the creative double life and the creative fantasy, too. As you may see in the links, he explains that he had an identity crisis. On my site Astromarkt, in the article about Sun-Neptune, I mention the issue of identity crisis related to this aspect.
He said that it wasn't him, but it was him. Here is the chart with transits and progressions for the fatal day.

The synastry of Princess Cristina and Inaki Urdangarin

It is obvious that the marriage of Princess Cristina of Spain brought her in trouble. Or at least: didn't stop her from trouble...
Her husband, Inaki Urdangarin, has been accused of fraud and it seems that she will have to face the judge, too. I wrote about her position (Saturn inconjunct MC and later square Sun) in a post on Astropost about lost status. The couple has been removed from the official agenda. Here is a picture of the royal family, with one of the children of Cristina and Inaki, close to his grandfather.

Here I will have a look at the interaction between the charts of the Princess and her husband. Do they match?

VENUS-SATURN
First of all: they have a mutual Saturn-Venus square synastry. His Saturn is square her Venus. Her Saturn is square his Venus. It means that in their composite chart, Venus will be square Saturn, too. The Venus-Saturn combination doesn't easily divorce or separate. Saturn sticks like glue, because there are always debts, mortgages, parents or children to be considered. It isn't the kind of aspect that makes you dream about 'happy ever after'. It is more a marriage of convenience. The afflicted Saturn in her 7th house of marriage perhaps warns for the disadvantages of marriage and for the wrong partner or his mistakes.
Divorce remains possible. Even more, because they don't seem to be 'made for each other'.

SYNASTRY
1. Her Sun is inconjunct his Sun. It means that basically their sun signs don't match. They noticed each other, but living together as one (Sun) is difficult, because of lack of balance or a barrier between the two. Who is the boss and who will be subjected to the other? That is also the question.
2. Their Moon signs don't match, either. It means that it will be hard to live in one house or family, as they have different habits and needs. Avoiding each other must not be difficult in a palace, however…
3. Her Venus 157.5 degrees his Venus…that is combination of a sesquisquare and a half semi square meaning frustration. However , they like and love each other in spite of difficulties.
4. The Mars signs are opposite, but there is no aspect between there Mars. Her Mars is trine his Sun: she will be able to match up with him and he is the kind of man that she is attracted to.
5. His Pluto is square her Sun. That is a symbol of dominance and more or less forced upon change. It was a matter of 'being impressed' and that is always also a matter of one person dominating the other one.
6. His Neptune quindecile her Midheaven perhaps illustrates how her position was obsessively related to his dreams.
7. Her Mars on his Descendant links his partnership to her idea of what a man should be like. Mars can be very stimulating.

Mr. Urdangarin married a Princess. In a way his chart is corresponding to those of female royal spouses: there is a Sun-Saturn aspect (the quintile in this case).

The couple doesn't match, but they drew each other's attention and they liked each other. That is how it started. But how will it end?

Famous couple Danny DeVito and Rhea Pearlman

Danny De Vito and Rhea Perlman were married for a long time. But now the end of their marriage is near.  Here, to see the aspects between their charts (the synastry) is the chart of Danny De Vito and the transits are the positions on the day of birth of Rhea Perlman.

THE VENUS-SATURN GLUE
They say that the divorce was ten years in the making! What keeps a couple together (in spite of whatever) is a Venus-Saturn connection. Venus-Saturn makes you stick to a lover like a stamp to a letter. It is because you take love seriously and because obligations (mortgage or parenthood) keep you together. I wrote about that before (see that blog on Astropost).

There is a mutual Venus-Saturn synastry between Danny DeVito and Rhea Pearlman. His Saturn is semi square her Venus. Her Saturn is sesquisquare his Venus.

THE SUN-SATURN SYNASTRY
Danny DeVito has Sun sesquisquare Saturn. There is a wide trine between Sun and Saturn in Rhea Pearlman's chart. When a couple shares Sun-Saturn aspects, that (quoting Astromarkt)

...makes you worry a lot if the aspect is hard. Maybe you do this, due to sharing nasty life experiences or feeling the same limitations and responsibilities. Nice trines or sextiles make you the serious couple, the parents perhaps. You go for a long time relationship and for getting old together and you are consistent in that! Your perseverance is highlighted.

That is the second key to what kept them together for so long!

However, Saturn (his) opposition Sun (hers) already warns about growing apart (after a long long time).  The fact that his Sun is sesquisquare Saturn and the synastry between them, shows the importance of this particular marriage.

THE SUM OF IT ALL
It is easy to see the other + and - in the synastry.

- There sun signs didn't match (Scorpio and Aries) but they noticed each other (there is a sesquisquare between their suns). It is harder to stay married in such a case.
+ - Her Venus opposition his Mars is a traditional indication of passion but the opposition might cause a problem
+ They share the same moon sign and that makes it easy to feel close.
+ Watch the biquintile between his Venus and hers: they found a creative way to love, in spite of their not corresponding sun signs and in spite of the not matching signs of Mars.
- Mars square Mars (fire at first, arguing later)
+ Her Jupiter on his Ascendant (for support and making each other happy)

When you see the + and -, the sum of it all seems to be that Mars square Mars did it, in the end. Mars is prominent in his chart (rising before the Sun) and her Chiron is conjunct his Mars. There are a number of Mars-Mars afflictions in the posts about divorces on this blog. It is about FIRE! With fire you might get hurt.

NATAL CHARTS
It is more difficult to stay married, when you have 2 or more hard aspects like (for a woman) Sun-Uranus, Venus-Uranus, Mars-Saturn or Sun-Mars. Rhea has Mars conjunct Saturn, which is one of the 4 aspects found in the charts of divorced women. But only one…! She also has Sun quintile Uranus, making it easy to be independent.

Danny has a Gemini descendant (a double sign on the house of marriages) and ruler Mercury is inconjunct Saturn in the 7th house. That is a 'circumstantial' affliction. Mercury inconjunct Saturn is about having to say goodbye, a departure with a loss. Saturn in the 7th house doesn't make it too easy to be married, but isn't necessarily a sign of divorce, unless afflicted. His Saturn IS afflicted by the Sun, Mercury and Neptune. There are no ' usual suspects' like afflictions between Moon-Saturn or Moon-Neptune, Mars-Uranus or Venus-Neptune, ruler 1 and ruler 7.

There were very little indications of divorce, only Mars-Mars affliction. But, let us (as always) consider circumstances. Danny DeVito is a rich man and surrounded by beautiful women. That makes it hard to be true...

PS
But why now? Here is the progressed chart of Danny DeVito.

In the progressed chart Venus is conjunct Ascendant for Danny DeVito. I wonder why. Maybe there is new love on the horizon? Maybe all women want to meet him, now that he is available?:)
It happens to be the kind of aspect that you would expect in the chart of someone who marries, not divorces. I wonder how YOU see that.

Divorce Katie Holmes and Tom Cruise

This week it was hot news that Katie Holmes left Tom Cruise. It is his third divorce. It is her first time.  I first planned to tell you all about it, but after writing it down, I decided to keep most of it to myself, to stick to the pictures and just tell you this:
a. They never matched at all. Their signs don't match. And his Sun is quindecile her Sun: that is an obsessive aspect and a hard one. Their charts weren't made for each other.
b. They both have a Mars-Uranus aspect. In short: hurry hurry hurry and boom! Her Venus-Uranus aspect warns for marrying too quickly with the wrong person.
c. When she married him she had Pluto on her Sun. His Pluto is in hard aspect with her Sun/Moon midpoint. This usually complicates a relationship.

For the purpose of study we have the Astrodienst AA-rated chart of Katie Holmes and the day of birth of Tom Cruise. We also know when they got married. Here are the charts.

A chart of Katie Holmes. The ' transits ' are the positions of the day of birth of Tom Cruise.

Above is the chart, progressed chart and transits of Katie Holmes on her wedding day.  There are a lot of transits and progressions. Like this one: the Progressed Ascendant is conjunct Saturn! When Orson Welles married Rita Hayworth, transit Saturn was on his Ascendant. The marriage didn't last. (see: http://astrology-love-romance.blogspot.nl/2011/09/famous-couple-orson-welles-and-rita.html)

There was a rumor about Katie wanting to move out of the family house, in 2008 (see the post: http://astropost.blogspot.nl/2008/07/house-and-chart-of-tom-cruise-and-katie.html

And now she left.

  • Then her Sun sign was changing sign to Aquarius
  • Her progressed Venus got inconjunct her Midheaven
  • Progressed Sun conjunct Progressed Mars.
  • Transit Pholus now square progressed Ascendant/Midheaven midpoint
  • Transit Uranus trine Jupiter.
  • The Uranus-Pluto (revolutionary) square hits her Jupiter and ...her Sun/Moon.
  • Transit Uranus is quindecile her Sun/Moon midpoint now (=a strong focus on change in marriage and motivation).
  • According to her husband it came as a complete surprise. For this, I like to point at Transit Uranus quatronovile the Progressed Ascendant (rejoicing a surprising act:).

LESSON
About aspects:
Inconjunctions between charts make it hard to maintain a balance between the two of you. Squares ad opposition at first seem to attract the 'opposite' but don't make it as easy as trines and sextiles to stick together. Conjunctions join you, but sometimes they join what you don't want (for example your sunny Sun and his Pluto). Quindeciles often cause obsession. Quintiles offer creative solutions in case of differences and noviles help you to see the good things in the partner.
About planets:
Pholus creates a point of no return. Uranus comes by surprise. And Saturn as a guest on your wedding day is usually not invited!

See the label for more examples of divorce.

PS
The astrological pattern of professional artistic talent in the chart of Katie Holmes is in the Moon square Venus and trine Neptune, with Midheaven square Moon, opposition venus and biquintile Neptune. The 'calling' Sun with the Moon and Ascendant in Leo will always make Katie Holmes shine and look brilliant wherever she is,with or without Tom Cruise.

Famous couple: Juan Carlos and Sofia of Spain

The King and Queen of Spain will be married 50 years in May 2012. There are few catholic royals who won't stay together for life, even in hard times. (Exception: Prince Hugo Carlos and Princess Irene, see that post). Time is hard for the Spanish royal couple. Their charts show it, the wedding chart shows it and their natal charts also tell us about the symbol of 'decorum' and distance: Saturn.

WEDDING
Above is Queen Sofia's chart, with transits and progressions for the wedding day. In the early years of the marriage of Queen Sofia of Spain and King Juan Carlos her progressed Sun was conjunct Venus and sextile Mars. Venus and Mars are the planets of passion. Venus makes you happy. When she married, Progressed Venus was opposition Ceres (love and dynasty/motherhood) with transit Jupiter trine her Sun (social success).

This is the chart of Juan Carlos on the day of the wedding. His chart shows discipline and tension: P Mars conjunct Saturn and trine Pluto, for example and P Sun square Uranus). Right now the Sun is conjunct Saturn and trine Pluto. Pluto is his ruler 7 (marriage).

Do their charts match? A tiny bit, I’d say. Of course charts aren’t telling us all, but they mirror certain tendencies that I like to show you.

MATCH AND SYNASTRY
Sun signs
Their sun signs seem to be compatible (she is a Scorpio and he is a Capricorn). But… their birthdays are a challenge: their suns are semisesquisquare (67.5d) apart. (See if your birthdays match here).  That doesn’t necessarily mean that you can’t live together, but it will be more difficult to join the ways of life.
Moon signs
To compensate, their moons are in Aquarius. Their backgrounds, needs and habits are in line. There is at least friendship and attraction.
Venus signs and aspects
Venus in Sagittarius is no match for Venus in Capricorn, so that their preferences will differ. It makes it harder to enjoy things together. Her Sun/Moon is conjunct his Venus (ruler 1). There is a great sense of ‘ to belong’ together.
Mars signs
The challenging aspect between their Mars:  157.5 d (sesquisquare + half semi square) is for competition and anger after ‘fire’ from the start.
Synastry and Sun Saturn
There is a difficult synastry aspect and that is: her Saturn square his Sun. Such an aspect refers to barriers between them. This Sun-Saturn conflict becomes an issue now that he has Progressed Sun conjunct Saturn and now that transit Saturn is on the cusp of her 7th house (of marriage).

Saturn now
Saturn is hitting hard in the charts of los Reinos: the King and Queen of Spain, today, just before the 50th anniversary of their marriage. He broke a leg and he had to say sorry in public. She spent 15 minutes with him after three days. That is Saturn. Saturn is the symbol of criticism and separation in a relationship. Mistakes and faults are being highlighted when it is time for Saturn. Often that is just too much for the marriage (see examples*), and divorce follows, but divorce is rare in a royal catholic family. What is left is perhaps cool distance for a while. Or business as usual?
Even the chart positions of the wedding (on May 14, 1962) has difficulties: progressed Sun trine Neptune might make it a 'fairy tale' but there is an
    1. inconjunction of progressed Sun with Saturn and ...
    2. transit Saturn inconjunct the Sun of May 14 doesn't help much, either.
Well, they managed to stay together for almost 50 years, so I guess that this marriage survives in spite of these inconjunctions of Saturn and that they and their family will celebrate the 5 decades anyway. In spite of the mistress (Corrina zu Sayn-Wittgenstein Frankfurt-am-Main, supposedly born January 29, 1965 with her Venus semi square the king's Sun/Moon, her Neptune opposition his Ascendant - romance! - and Sun square the Sun of Sofia with Saturn on Sofia's Moon).

On Astropost there is a post with more about the present transits and progressions with Saturn in the charts of the king and queen of Spain for April 2012. I will send the link later.

    LINKS

*)Think of my post 'Saturn and saying goodbye'. I mentioned:
    • Maria Shriver (divorcing Arnold Schwarzenegger: transit Saturn sesquisquare progressed AC/MC and square progressed Sun.
    • Sandra Bullock, ex of Jesse James, had Progressed AC/MC square Saturn and transit Pholus in hard aspect with natal midpoint AC/MC when they separated.
    • Mrs Strauss-Kahn (15 July 1948, 16:30 New York) had Progressed MC square Saturn andTransit Neptune square Ascendant during the revelations and trial of her husband.

Famous couple: Crown Prince Felipe and his wife Letizia of Spain

This is the chart of Letizia, Crown Princess of Spain. The ‘ transits’ are the natal positions of her husband, Felipe, with exception of the Moon and his Ascendant and Midheaven (he has the Moon in the 20th degree of Aquarius, square the Ascendant in 20th degree of Taurus and Midheaven in the last degree of Capricorn). What occurs to me first is that Letizia has the Sun square Saturn, a difficult aspect when it comes to restrictions and status, just like Dutch Crown Princess Maxima and the Belgian Crown Princess. Letizia has 2 of the 4 indications for divorce in a woman's chart (Sun conjunct Mars and Mars exactly square Saturn) and Uranus is in her 7th house. First I thoughht that this was a risk for this marriage, but (see comments!): she was married before! Felipe doesn’t have the indications for divorce in a man’s chart. He has Neptune in the 7th house.

    MATCH?
The interaction between the positions of Princess and Prince (the aspects between the charts) tell us about the connection between them. So:

How does the next Spanish royal couple (Felipe and Letizia) match?

    • Their Suns don’t match (sesquisquare); who's the boss

    • Their Moons match (sextile); easy getting used to each other

    • Their Mercuries don’t match (157.5 degree = sesquisquare and half semi square); communications!!!

    • Venus biquintile Venus is a match expressing a creative way to match preferences and ...they found a way to love each other in spite of differences

    • Their Mars don’t match (opposition); attraction and competition (with the risk of fighting each other if they don't cooperate).
The complete picture is that they don’t match easy but they are strongly connected to each other. In a way there is a similarity with the synastry of the royal couple (the parents of the prince). See that post. Continue for more...

Famous couple: Brigitte Bardot and Roger Vadim

When I wrote about the charts of beautiful women I forgot to mention one of the most well known symbols of female attraction: Brigitte Bardot. Brigitte is a Libra with it’s ruler Venus in a wide sextile with Pluto and inconjunct Saturn. That is in line with the Venus-Saturn-Pluto combinations that I found in the charts of other beauties. It hurts to remain beautiful:).

Here is the chart of the ‘star’, born with an unaspected Sun. This ‘calling’  Sun symbolizes drawing attention (performance and show). The Sun makes a minor aspect with Neptune (22.5 degree half semi square). Sun-Neptune combinations (see Astromarkt) are not uncommon in the charts of actors, animal lovers and those with a ‘double identity’, like actors have. They are idols and not always who we think that they are.
Chart of Brigitte Bardot and in green the natal positions of Roger Vadim

    ROGER
She married Roger Vadim, the man who brought her to fame, when she was only 18. They stayed together for 5 years and then divorced. That is interesting, because their sun signs were a match (5th degree Libra – 5th degree Aquarius)! So what is it that ended their relationship anyway?

    1. Their moon signs didn’t match (Gemini and Pisces)
    2. Neither did their Venus positions (Virgo and Sagittarius)
    3. Her fiery Mars in Leo was no match for the controlled Mars in Capricorn of Vadim.
    4. He may have idolized her (his Neptune semi square her Midheaven) and when it comes to reality, Neptune fades away...
    5. His Pluto inconjunct her Ascendant might be a difficult aspect to handle.

Maybe this all was too complicated, even though there are a lot of aspects with her Ascendant. For example: his Juno was square her Ascendant (she might have been the perfect woman for him at first sight) and his Sedna (symbol of the daughter, young woman) was trine her Ascendant. He may have idolized her (his Neptune semi square her Midheaven). Perhaps that is why the movie that he directed was named 'And God created women'.

There were too many obstacles and there was not enough love (Venus) to compensate for that. Vadim married more than once. Moon square Saturn and Mars square Uranus are two of the indications for divorce in a man’s chart. Bardot has Mars opposition Saturn and a double bodied sign on the seventh house cusp to illustrate the risk of divorce or separation. She married three times. She is now still married with number three, a right conservative politician.

    ACTING
What in her chart characterizes her as an actress? First let us see the circumstances and situation when she started. She was born rich and beautiful and had the chance to be seen in places where the rich and famous had their holidays. In those circumstances she drew attention (Sun is ‘calling’). She was orientated on the non-material side of life (ideals, faith or fantasy). The important Moon opposition Ascendant tells us about attraction and sense of what the people want and need. The prominence of Sun and Moon show the prominence of motivation. She is a star (Sun) and popular (Moon). The midpoint Sun/Moon = Node (that means that the community, family or groups motivate her).

The Moon is square Neptune (for sensitivity) and sesquisquare Jupiter (for the need for success)…Moon with Jupiter and Neptune helps you get fans and followers. The Moon is also semi square Pluto. Jupiter-Pluto combinations are indicative for success. Her popularity is evident. The Moon in Gemini (feeling young forever) appealed to the public.

It is clearly the picture of a popular star. The pattern of artistic professional talent is like this:
Venus and Neptune rising before the Libra Sun, a Libra MC and a Moon square Neptune. Midheaven completes the pattern (Venus half semi square Midheaven, Midheaven in aspect with Moon and Neptune).
Her professional activities where in the artistic field. She was (and is still) very photogenic.

Famous couple: Orson Welles and Rita Hayworth

This is the chart of Orson Welles. He married Rita Hayworth on a September 7 and that is why I looked at his chart. They were married for only 5 years. The 'transits' are the positions of the day of birth of Rita Hayworth. Let's see why they divorced.

    MATCH
His Sun is in Taurus and hers in Libra, in a 157.5 degree minor aspect (see: do your birthdays match?) The signs didn't match, but they drew each others attention.

    The moonsigns don't match

There is no match with Mercury, either

Venus is opposition Venus (opposites are attractive)

Mars is trine Mars (they cooperated and they were sexually attracted)

    SHARING...
His Sun square Uranus and her Sun trine Uranus
That means that they shared an aspect between Sun and Uranus.

On Astromarkt I wrote about that:
Sun and Uranus shared in aspect might indicate: joined rebellion. How long this will last in a proper family home in a suburb, especially when the aspect is hard? But in a group of inventive people or in a place where news items are made you certainly can go for ‘sensation’ together. This relationship could have an unusual start. Too much tension could lead to stress, even if the surprises are nice. Both being independent and willing to be free it will be hard to stay together as a couple. With harmonious aspects this tendency for doing things the way you want it, will be tempered and then your unique qualities come to the light, better than if you were alone.
    SYNASTRY
Her Jupiter square his Mars: they had a daughter together. Mars-Jupiter favors production and reproduction.
    CONCLUSION
They didn't match and that is what she said, too. But they were attracted and got married and had a child. On the day that he married the progressed ascendant was inconjunct his Moon and transit Saturn on his Ascendant. Those were not exactly good signs to start with, even though the Moon is in his 7th house. As I said, he married more than once (Venus in Aries for love at first sight, Sagittarius on cusp 7 and Sun/Moon with Uranus for being motivated by change...). Here is the chart for the wedding day:

PS He was overweight (Jupiter square Ascendant)

Famous couples: Charlie Sheen and Brooke Mueller

A couple of years ago Charlie Sheen married Brooke Mueller (see Wikipedia) and she is the mother of their twin. Their divorce will be effective in May 2011. But before, did they match? No, they didn't.

    MATCHING SIGNS?
Sun in Virgo (his), Sun in Leo (hers): NO, for different lifestyles
Moon in Sagittaris (his) is OK for Moon in Libra:YES for compatible habits
Mercury in Leo (his) Mercury in Virgo (hers):NO, for disagreeing
Venus square Venus (they were attracted to each other, but they have conflicting desires, different sympathies and tastes): NO (but attracted, yes)
Mars in Scorpio with Mars in Gemini:NO (difficulties)

There was little 'agreement'  between the charts. Their sunsigns didn't match and there was no compensation for it (Venus could have been the symbol of that).

    SHARED ASPECTS
When you share aspects, you share the same characteristics or experiences.

Both have a Sun-Saturn aspect, so what they share is...responsibility (parenthood, for example). The twin will connect, forever. Quoting Astromarkt:
Sun and Saturn shared makes you worry a lot if the aspect is hard. Maybe you do this, due to sharing nasty life experiences or feeling the same limitations and responsibilities. Nice trines or sextiles make you the serious couple, the parents perhaps. You go for a long time relationship and for getting old together and you are consistent in that! Your perseverence is highlghted.

They both have Sun sextile Mars and are both ready to stand up for themselves. Is that good or bad...:) Quoting Astromarkt:
Sharing Sun and Mars in aspect is: competition. Who is the boss and the best? If harmonious you do sports together or you play a lot together.  Sharing Sun-Mars points at the same kind of work and drives. But if in conflict there is a lot of struggle between the both of you and you must learn to cooperate or separate. In a relationship sexuality might be the battleground. Your work and arguments are highlighted.

    SYNASTRY
His Venus is on her Moon, so they fell in love...

His Moon is trine her Sun, and that could have been good. The result is that they started family life...

Her Uranus is on his Mars and that is a wake-up call for his already prominent aggression. This relationship had a 'short fuse'. See Astromarkt...

Her Uranus is square his Midheaven: she changes his position and reputation

Here is his chart with her positions in green (the 'transits'):
The story of their relationship seems to include all that was possible to happen: starting a family, becoming parents and having so much difficulties and disagreements that it almost inevitably ended in a divorce.

Famous couples: Queen Victoria and Prince Albert

It is always a pleasure to see an exception when it is about matching (compatible) signs. Queen Victoria's Sun in Gemini was exactly square the Sun in Virgo of her beloved husband Prince Albert. Their sunsigns didn't match. They had 9 children together, so I don't suppose that she didn't like him. But of course: she was the queen and she was the boss! When Sun's don't match it is often a matter of 'who is the boss'. She was, she was the queen.

Also: his Moon in Scorpio is inconjunct her Moon in Gemini! There must have been difficulties to get used to each other's habits and traditions or...unbalancing emotions.

What is the compensation for it? Venus matches Venus (there is a 127.5/128 degree difference, a distance that I consider of importance).
Mars is semisesquisquare Mars (fire!!! and possible fights)

There are a lot of challenging aspects between them and there is little compensation in synastry. His Juno trine her Moon and Midheaven is nice, though. We can see the importance of marriage in her chart: Juno is exactly square the Ascendant

They share aspects and that helps! For example: both have Venus trine Uranus. That means that they shared a sort of an excitement about each other, a repeating sensation of falling in love. They also shared Venus trine Neptune: romantic feelings. And Mars-Jupiter (overproduction?:): she has Mars sextile Jupiter, he has Mars sesquisquare Jupiter.

The chart of Albert and Victoria are a perfect example of not matching signs and the effect of sharing aspects. They were 'lovers as well as partners in a great enterprise' is what I read here...
    http://online.wsj.com/article/SB124244014244326267.html
And that is corresponding with Mars-Jupiter (great enterprise) and Venus-Uranus-Neptune (lovers).

    DEATH OF ALBERT
Victoria lost her husband too soon. when that happened progressed Venus was square natal Mars and in the progressed chart Moon was square Midheaven. A very important indication of what was to happen is in the solar return chart: Sun square Saturn and Neptune on Midheaven.

BTW Ceres is conjunct Moon on the Ascendant of Queen Victoria in line with the importance of motherhood/dynasty.

Matching signs and famous couple Boyd/Clapton

Astromarkt has been restyled. So has the article about matching signs. The address changed, too. Here is the link:
    http://astromarkt.net/index.php?id=98

When signs don't match it is a challenge to continue the relationship. Famous examples of not matching signs are Pattie Boyd and Eric Clapton. This famous couple divorced. Four years ago Pattie Boyd wrote a book about the marriage. It seems to have been her 'revenge' on Eric Clapton (see the news of 2006).

Pattie Boyd is born 17th March 1944 (time unknown) and she divorced Eric Clapton (30 March 1945, 20h55 in Ripley Surray, UK). They did not match much. Here is the (DD-rated so time is not official!) natal chart of Eric Clapton by Astrodatabank with the transits of the day of birth of Pattie Boyd.

He is an Aries, she is a Pisces (-); they are fundamentely different.

He is a Moon Scorpio, she is Moon Sagittarius (-) and that doesn't make it easy to get used to living together.

He is Mercury in Aries, she in Pisces (-); that is causing differences of opinion and interests.

Venus sextile Venus (+) so they liked each other...

Mars in Pisces for him, in Gemini for her (-) for fire first and fighting later. There are many of such examples on this blog.

Her Sun is biquintile his Moon (+) for a creative way to became a couple.

His Venus inconjunct her Neptunus (-) for lost illusions.

His Mars square her Uranus and inconjunct her Neptunus (--) and that is no good...

His Jupiter square her Saturn (-) is for ups and downs.

His Neptune parallel her Sun (+) for romance.

That is a lot of not matching planets and lights...

Famous couples Mariah Carey, Tommy Mottola and Nick Cannon

Mariah Carey is pregnant and married to Nick Cannon, whose Ceres (symbol of motherhood, genes and seeds) is conjunct her Ascendant. Before, Mariah Carey married and divorced TOMMY MOTTOLA, her first producer. She met him in 1988. Here is her chart with his positions in green:
They didn't match much. Her sun in Aries, his in Cancer. Her Moon in Sagittarius, his in Pisces. Her Mercury in Aries, his in Cancer. Her Mars in Taurus is novile his in Gemini (and the novile is for joy), but Venus 112.5 (square and half semi square) Venus separated their ideas about style. Notice that his Saturn is inconjunct her Midheaven. Saturn is the symbol of age, restrictions and goodbye's. The story goes that he restricted her in many ways. After the divorce she started dressing more sexy than ever. Anyway, she divorced (natal Sun opposition Uranus, Venus quindecile Uranus; two out of the four indications for possible divorce in the chart of women...*).

BTW Sun opposition Uranus is on the vertical line in the chart (the MC-IC axis). She divorced the man who made her a star, after alienation.

    NICK CANNON
Her second husband is much younger than her first. Nick Cannon was born October 8, 1980. That is about 30 years younger and he is also 10 years younger than Mariah is. This is her chart with his positions on the outside.

Their Suns don't match. He is a Libra, she is an Aries.

Their Moons match (Sagittarius and Libra)

Their Mercuries don't match (Mercury inconjunct Mercury)

Venus doesn't match with Venus (Aries and Virgo)

Mars doesn't match Mars (Taurus and Scorpio)

So I am afraid that their charts are not very compatible...As they ARE together, there must be other links between them. How about his Saturn on her IC? (Remember her former husband's Saturn inconjunct her MC? Saturn is the ruler of her seventh house of marriage...). And very, very important in the light of her pregnancy (announced yesterday, see date of this post) is:

    HIS CERES ON HER ASCENDANT

Ceres is the symbol of motherhood, genes and seed. And there is more...

His Pluto is also quindecile her Sun. His Pluto is opposition her Venus. That is about fascination, 'a spell'....His Venus is inconjunct her Midheaven, perhaps for disproportional adoration:) So no matching signs (and different views, ideas and tastes) but fascination instead. The combiation of her Sun/Moon with his Neptune contributes to a romantic idea. Maybe they are each other's 'muses' (romantic inspiration).

Husband Nick has indications for possible divorce: Mars conjunct Uranus and Moon-Saturn. It doesn't mean he hás to divorce, but it is a risk. Perhaps the reflection of unstable relationships mirrors the called off engagement with Salita Ebanks?  Here is Mariah's chart with Nick's positions:

The Capricorn Descendant seems to indicate the age differences (and difference in status) between her and her husbands.

The marriages of Princess Anne of England

Princess Anne of England married twice. Her natal charts has 3 out of the 4 indications for divorce for women*) and a conflict between the rulers of the 1st and 7th house. That is enough for at least one divorce. This post is about the matches.

    FIRST MARRIAGE
Princess Anne’s first husband, the father of her children, is Mark Philips, an Olympic medal winnig horseman. They married on November 14, 1973 and divorced in 1992.During their marriage he had an affair and fathered a daughter (in August 1985). This was confirmed by a DNA-test in 1991, soon after her progressed Venus conjunct Saturn (an astrological statement for a depression in a marriage).
Anne and Mark didn’t match much from the start. Their Mars and Moons were in the ‘right’ signs, but their Sun signs, Mercuries and Venus didn’t match. They had children together, but they didn’t like each other much in the end.
BTW His Jupiter was trine her Sun and that is mirroring support and trust. Apparently that doesn’t mean that a person will be faithful and true. It just means that one of the partners puts her/his trust in the other one (and we don’t know if that was the right thing to do).
Here you see the chart of Anne with the positions of Mark Philips.

    SECOND MARRIAGE
Princess Anne’s present husband is Tim Laurence. They aren’t married in the Church of England, because this Church (with the Queen as leader) doesn’t allow marriage after divorce.  (Watch Uranus in the 9th house for this. It is an indication for a change in conviction or religion).

They married on December 12,1992 and are still together, in spite of their synastry. The Venus opposition Venus, Mars opposition Mars and his Neptune square her Venus is pointing at a passionate and romantic start and risking later ups and downs, competition or even fights.  Or perhaps they manage to control that in trying to beat each other in sports:).

When she got married her Progressed Sun was sextile the Midheaven and inconjunct Jupiter. Transit Pluto and Pallas were on the progressed Ascendant. Also T Jupiter was inconjunct Venus. I guess that that aspect is reflecting the wedding partyJ.
Here you see the Princess’ chart with the transits and progressions of her wedding day.

*) The indications for divorce/not getting married in a woman's chart are:
Sun-Mars, Mars-Saturn, Sun-Uranus and Venus-Uranus aspect combinations (in particular the hard aspects).
The indications for males are: Moon-Saturn, Moon-Neptune, Venus-Neptune and Mars-Uranus.

Famous couple: Princess Irene and Prince Carlos Hugo de Borbon Parma

Born on August 5, 1939, Princess Irene is the second daughter of Juliana and Bernhard, the former Queen and Prince and the sister of Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands. She studied Spanish language and literature. She became a catholic when she married her Carlos Hugo de Borbon, who didn’t become the King of Spain, though he wanted to. She gave up her position in the Netherlands for this marriage…on the 29th of April 1964. AC/MC is semi square Juno, showing how crucial her marriage was.

Here you see her chart with transits and progressions for the wedding day.

The majority of the positions on her wedding day show formality and distance (her family was not allowed to be in church that day because the government hadn’t agreed with the marriage. I can give a complete list of transits and progressions, but it is actually enough to point at the transit op Saturn, opposition progressed Venus and conjunct progressed Moon. The honeymoon (Moon-Venus) and the formal situation putting her down. My latest post was about the effect of Venus-Saturn and this is another example of it.

She divorced him later. It was her first and only marriage. *)

    MATCH WITH CARLOS HUGO

His Saturn is inconjunct her natal Sun and his Uranus is trine her natal Sun. Their Sun signs are matching though the Suns are 112.5 degrees apart (a square + half semi square!), and their Venus don’t match (square). His Moon might be conjunct her Sun (a traditional synastry aspect between a man and a woman, but more often it is his Sun and her Moon) and their Moon signs are matching.

The Saturn inconjunct Sun combination is the most important indication for divorce and separations (or boundaries, obstacles and limitations without control, making it hard to be together), though there are more (not mentioned here). Her ex-husband is still around when family matters (maybe because of the matching Moons.). They have four children together.

PS Today there was an announcement that Prince Carlos Hugo de Borbon is dying now. He already said goodbye to his family.

*) Princess Irene has all of the four aspect combinations of possible divorce*) in her chart, but only 2 of them are difficult (the square and the quindecile):
    - Sun binovile Uranus (going your own way, regardless of other’s opinions),
    - Venus quintile Uranus (creative adventures in love) and
    - Mars square Saturn (seperation from a man, dead ends) with
    - Sun quindecile Mars
*) Afflictions between Sun-Mars, Sun-Uranus, Venus-Uranus and Mars-Saturn and/or between the houses 1 and 7 are indicative for a greater chance for divorce or not getting married in the charts of women. In the charts of men these afflictions are: Moon-Saturn, Moon-Neptune, Venus-Neptune and Mars-Uranus and/or house1 - house 7.  More of those afflictions increase the possibility of separations.

    EXPLANATION
A binovile is an aspect of 80 degrees, a novile is 40 degrees.  The novile means ‘ finding joy in/rejoicing’…More noviles on Linda Goodman’s forum… http://www.linda-goodman.com/ubb/Forum24/HTML/201926.html

    More quindeciles here…
